Well, went on a fun trip. Did an 8 hour drive to the Northern California coast on Thursday night. Friday and Saturday spent doing an out and back along the Lost Coast Trail. The road was blocked to shelter cove so we did a hard camp in a former campground in Honeydew. Met a raucous group of locals who couldn’t get home on account of the blocked road. Apparently a local, Alex, had ordered something that ended up getting sent on a large truck and trailer. The roads here are famously windy and tight, and the trailer ended up jackknifed across the road, preventing vehicles from continuing south towards Shelter Cove. Turned out in our favor tho, as the blocked road set us on the path towards Humbolt Redwoods State Park, where Chase and I got a chance to take a hike through some redwood groves and other beautiful forest scenery. We then made our way to Legget for some burgers at the Peg house, and the rain started coming down. We decided over burgers to head generally in the direction of home, and if the weather let up along the way, we’d stop and find somewhere to camp. Somewhere east of Clearlake, CA we stopped to take a break from driving at a BLM trailhead called Cache Creek, were we found some information about some dispersed camping a couple miles into the trail after a 600ft climb over the Mendecino Hills.
