Unbelievable! Your boy emosapien here - I thought i was out….

You see, I started my love affair with technology when I was like 4 something with the ubiquitous Apple II Classic. My old man had one in his office, where he’d show me how to play “Prince of Persia.” I was hooked! While the television was entertaining, I craved the interaction. Legend tells, that young emosapien once ruined a VCR by surreptitiously trying to feed E.T. cookies via the cassette aperture on the unit. After several tapes had been ruined and the unit taken for service, I was asked to keep my cookies to myself and the new unit was placed high out of my reach.

Anyway - started at the bottom, now we’re here…

As a family we usually had a Mac somewhere as a community machine most of my time growing up. Once I started having to buy my own equipment I started to dabble in Windows as pirating software and cobbling hardware from disparate sources was much easier. But once I got to college and needed a machine I begged and pleaded to get a Mac again. I was going to be a creative! And creative people needed a MAC goddamn it, otherwise they were nothing but tryhards and amateurs. What a brainwashed turkey, huh? I loved that machine all through college, although I also had my first linux experiences hacking XBMC onto an actual v1 xbox. That stupid thing was my favorite media device of all time (next to my sexy lil green iPod mini - can’t ever fucking escape can we?)

For realz tho - a minute of tribute. XBMC allowed me to set up a media server with every piece of video and music i had pirated and hoarded on hard disks. Movies, TV Shows, a fucking SNES emulator with all the good shit, and little widgets like weather and news tickers. Remember this is 2006-ish and TiVo was like fucking magic at the time. But I digress.

Ok roll the clock some more, a bit faster, I wasn’t meaning to write an autobiography via fanboy recollections. So now - it’s like 2020 or something, the world is on fire, and I’m more or less out of the game. I have a couple of mac devices that float around (usually a parent’s decomm’d machine needing some work) but have been primarily on Windows. I want to get better at coding so I decide it’s time to get back to work and learn a boy some Linux. BOOM Now we’ve got a Surface Pro 6 with Win10, a desktop in the basement with Ubuntu 20.1 and we’re off to the races right? Nope. We get comfy in linux just a bit, and now we’ve got new mac silicon in hand, we’re fixing chase’s old POS and to do so I’ve got to fix my old POS first so i can use it to throw the older one a lifeline. There’s magsafe bullshit everywhere, tiny ass screws i’ve essentially stripped trying to get a drive out while that stupid rainbow pinwheel spins on another machine. apple + opt + shift + R come on baby get me into recovery mode…

Fuck. I’m back in mac.
